Well I am sure some of you have wondered . .where or where have we been? Well of course it is prime wedding season and that's one of the reasons we've fallen behind on the blog . .but we also had a little life emergency to deal with. A few weeks ago we went away on a lovely short trip with my family to Portland and Long Beach for a little break in the middle of the hectic wedding season and while we were away . Bryan was throwing Zoe up in the pool and discovered a few days later after we returned that he tore his rotator cuff. Ok. not the best thing when you shoot weddings, but he iced it, got some medicine and went on his way for our two weddings weekend before last. Then last week it all began with Bryan having a horrible stomach ache . . on Tuesday he told me he had to go to the ER, not sure if most of you know most guys, but most would avoid the ER with the plague so I knew he was in pain From Tuesday-Thursday we spent a total of 20+ hours at the hospital where on Wednesday evening they finally diagnosed Bryan with a gall bladder attack and from a gall stone blocking a duct that led to pancretitis (a serious and can be deadly condition). He was advised to have his gall bladder out immediately to avoid another blockage and did so on Thursday. Below is a photo of him the first night he was in the ER. What a roller coaster the last week has been, if I only knew last Monday what the week would be like . . . we are so thankful that he is ok, the surgery went well and he is on the mend. I shot a lovely wedding on Saturday for a couple with another shooter - Mike Ryan - thank you so much for being available on short notice (and yes we still rocked it even though the rain got in our way - what a fun couple and great venue - the Sculpture Park which we will blog later) without Bryan. He actually wanted to go having never missed a wedding in his life, but the day after the surgery realized there was just no way.
Now onto the lovely wedding of Andy & Maggie at the Alexis Hotel in Seattle. We were able to work with Angie Casper, the great wedding coordinator at the Alexis. She was so on top of things and great to work with. Between Angie and the Alexis being so fun to shoot, it's of of my new favorite venues. We lucked out with gorgeous sunny weather which seems a rarity this year for some reason. We started out the day by capturing shots of them getting ready and isn't the first shot of Maggie's red shoes (she had two looks and two sets of shoes - isn't that cool) with the taxi cab gorgeous? The lovely Erin Hunt did Maggie's hair and makeup and can I just say that she was so fun and easy to work with and does great work - check her out! It was then onto shooting the very suave looking Andy with his guys and I think they all looked uber cool while we shot them on the steps. We then came back and got Maggie to head to the Pike Place Market for shots. I am in love with the shot with the sun flair and them in post alley and of course the shot of Maggie's shoes with the gum wall. We took a lot of very nice but relaxed portraits in the Alexis and then had some fun by having their wedding party jump for a shot - I love the result!
For the ceremony, Maggie had both her parents walk down the aisle who might I say flew all the way from Taiwan to join them - wow! I love that new tradition that we are seeing more and more. I love how Andy's friend David wanted to pretend that Maggie should not seal the deal by signing the marriage certificate . .their friends both love and adore them, but have a great sense of humor. Onto their lovely ceremony, where they had such beautiful details. They customized their dinner menu to include all of their favorite dishes including a yummy ginger beef soup. Towards the end of the night, Maggie changed into a traditional gorgeous red dress she had gotten from China and we had a chance to do some more portraits. While we were in the very cool bar at the Alexis we happened to run into a past couple we photographed from 2006 - the lovely Jaime & Mike! It was so fun and so ironic to run into them while shooting a wedding. Until next time . .enjoy! Below is a list of the fabulous vendors we worked with at their wedding:
